Kanazawa Station
A famous American travel magazine “TRAVEL+LEISURE” selected Kanazawa station in 2011 as one of the most beautiful stations in the world. The station honorably has two mandatory shooting spots. One is “Tsudumi-mon” made from wood, which models on Japanese hand drums (Tsudumi) for Nohgaku theatre. Another one is a huge glass-walled “dome of Motenashi”, which means hospitality in Japanese.
Ono District
Ono-machi in the northern part of Kanazawa City prospered as a port town during the Edo period. Also known for its soy sauce production, the storehouses dotted around bring a quaint atmosphere to the townscape.
Ishikawa Prefecture Kanazawa Port Ono Karakuri Museum
“Karakuri” is a creation with a mechanism to move. Ōno Benkichi, an inventor who lived in Ono at the end of the Edo period, in addition to being an expert on karakuri, invented the camera and igniter (lighter) among other things. The “Karakuri Memorial Museum” exhibits and introduces Benkichi’s works and the history of Karakuri.
Nishida Kitaro Museum of Philosophy
This museum introduces the philosophy and life of Japan’s leading philosopher, Nishida Kitaro. The building was designed by world-famous architect Tadao Ando. Its intricate, maze-like, and complicated space will encourage you to “think.”
Utatsuyama Park
Enjoy a casual drive on the road leading up to the mountain summit in the natural park, located close to Kenrokuen Garden and Kanazawa Castle Park. The observation deck has a view of the Kanazawa townscape and the Sea of Japan. It is also a popular night viewing spot.
Yuwaku Onsen
This small hot spring town is located in a green mountainous area, about 20 minutes by car from Kanazawa City center. The Soyu (public bathhouse) allows you to have a dip in a hot spring without having to stay at a ryokan.
