Among “Noto”, “Kaga-Hakusan” area is expansive with varied fascinations and the best place to visit by rented cars which covers from the coast of the Sea of Japan even to the base of Mt. Hakusan, one of Japan’s three most famous sacred mountains, when you like to go around to come by sightseeing spots there.


Kakusenkei Gorge

One of the charms of Yamanaka Onsen is that it is blessed with natural beauty, such as a gorge and mountain streams. In particular, “Kakusenkei Gorge” is gaining popularity as a quaint spot for autumn leaves. The best time for autumn leaves is from mid to late November.

Hashidate Fishing Port District

During the Edo period, the Sea of Japan was an important route for the shipping of rice, fish, etc. from the ports in Hokkaido to Edo and Osaka. The town of Hashidate prospered through such maritime transport and is designated as an Important Preservation District for Groups of Traditional Buildings, with the streetscapes from the time being protected.

Shishiku Highland

This plateau surrounded by rich greenery has a gondola that will take you to the summit 650 meters above sea level, from where there is a grandstand view of the Kanazawa plain and the Sea of Japan. At the summit, it’s also possible to experience a two-person paraglider with an instructor.

Tedori Gorge

The torrent of the Tedori River has created a beautiful gorge, with its 20–30-meter-high cliff stretching for around 8 kilometers. In particular, sheets of spray from the powerful “Watagataki Falls” pour down to the gorge from the 32-meter-high cliff, as if cotton is dancing.

Shiramine Traditional Building District

The houses in this settlement were built during the Edo and Meiji periods. In Shiramine, which is one of the heaviest snowfall areas in Japan, the houses and streetscape capture the wisdom of people who live with the snow.

Hakusan Shirakawa-go White Road

This 33.3-km road passes through Mt. Hakusan’s majestic nature and connects Hakusan Ichirino Onsen and the World Heritage Shirakawa-go. Red leaves color the roadside in autumn and the sea of clouds may be seen in the morning on sunny days.

The Ruins of Torigoe-jo Castle

These are the remains of a medieval castle that was built at the mountain summit at an altitude of 312 meters. A gate and stone walls, etc. have now been restored.

Natadera Temple

Many of the buildings at this old temple with a 1,300-year history are designated as National Important Cultural Properties. The natural rocky mountains form a unique landscape in the vast precincts, especially with the magnificent autumn leaves. The best time for autumn leaves is from late October to late November.

Kitamaebune-no-sato Museum

During the Edo period, the Sea of Japan was an important transportation route, with a ship named “Kitamaebune” carrying goods from Hokkaido to Osaka. Located in the Hashidate district that prospered through maritime transport, “Kitamaebune-no-sato Museum” is housed in the luxury residence of a shipowner. It is open to the public and exhibits related materials.

Ishikawa Insect Museum

Ishikawa Zoo

Shirayama-Hime Shrine

This is the head shrine for some 3,000 Shirayama Shrines that exist throughout Japan. The vast precincts contain huge old trees standing in line, with a solemn atmosphere in keeping with sanctuary.

Ishikawa Ogoya Mine Museum
